We hope you are staying healthy and safe during these unprecedented times in 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions and concerns, we have made the difficult decision to hold a virtual online event. Seattle Children's Hospital Uncompensated Care and Autism Center need your help even more than ever so please make plans to join us for an entertaining and inspiring presentation with a live auction, patient stories and musical entertainment. Silent auction items, raffles, and trees will be part of the event before and after the live auction. There will be no charge to register for the online event.

Our guild members are working hard in several ways to create a unique, special experience while raising funds to continue to help the families at Seattle Children's and the Autism Center. Beautiful and one-of-a-kind trees are being created, auction items are being collected, and new features will be offered that will allow more flexibility and more participation while raising funds to help families and children with health challenges. Check our website , Facebook page and Instagram to stay informed.

We'll miss seeing you in person but we are counting on your help to keep supporting Seattle Children's!

Seattle Festival of Trees to Honor the Cuzcueta Family at 2019 Gala

8/5/2019

Picture
Hello! We are the Cuzcueta family of Seattle. And we have two amazing little twin girls who are on the Autism Spectrum. Though the last few years have been very hard on this journey, we have been working to give our girls the best quality of life with the amazing resources and help from Seattle Children’s Hospital and  Autism Center.

Thanks to the amazing help we receive we have seen growth and look forward to a brighter future. We are able to enjoy life a little more each day because of Seattle Children's, and Children's can support families like mine because of the support from events like the Seattle Festival of Trees.

I can’t wait to share our story with you all in person at this year's Festival of Trees Gala on November 23, and share just how much your help impacts our daily life.

Sponsorships Still Needed

The Seattle Festival of Trees Gala would not be possible without event and tree sponsors, and we are grateful to those who have committed already. This year our goal is $120,000 and we are  only about halfway there. We need several companies or individuals to sponsor the event at $20,000, $15,000, $10,000, or $5,000. A $3,000 sponsorship will put your name on one of the beautiful, unique, designer trees displayed at the Seattle Fairmont Olympic Hotel at the event and through the holiday season.

Watch for your invitation in September, and mark your calendars for the annual gala on November 23, 2019 at the Fairmont, and the free Celebration on Sunday, November 24.

We look forward to seeing you in November, and thank you in advance for your support!

Seattle Festival of Trees Update - October 2018

Patient Profile - Alex Cleary

Picture
Alex Cleary is an 18-year old college student and rugby player who visited Seattle Children’s Hospital for the first time as a one-week old infant.  This was the beginning of a years-long journey to correct a cleft lip and palate.

A cleft palate is a birth defect in which the roof of the mouth contains an opening into the nose, the result of facial tissues not joining properly during pre-natal development.  This condition can be successfully treated with surgery. Alex’s treatment at Seattle Children’s included lip repair at the age of three months, palate repair as a one-year old, a bone marrow transplant when he was 9, cosmetic nose and lip surgery when he turned 12, four years wearing braces, and jaw surgery when he turned 18.  His final surgery is scheduled for November 7.

Alex, who started playing rugby as a sixth grader, is today a member of the U.S. Youth Olympics Rugby team and will be traveling to Buenos Aires, Argentina to participate in the Youth Olympic Games from October 6-18.  As a Youth Olympian, Alex has the opportunity to train with some of his favorite players, including Perry Baker and Carlin Isles.

In high school, Alex served as captain of his high school football, wrestling, and rugby teams, and recently received an athletic scholarship to attend Central Washington University.  He’ll be playing rugby for Central beginning Winter Quarter 2019.  Last year CWU was ranked #15 nationally in NCAA Division I Rugby.

Being a Youth Olympian calls for many responsibilities and a demanding travel schedule.  This past summer, Alex trained with the U.S. Men’s Olympic Rugby Team in Chula Vista, California and Lake Placid, New York, for rugby trials.  His future plans include earning his bachelor’s degree and continuing to play rugby into the future, possibly as a coach or team manager.  When asked about becoming a member of the Seattle Seawolves, Alex replied with a grin, “Yeah, I’ve definitely thought about it.  That would be really awesome.”

Alex’s proud grandmother, Rosemary Weimer, has been a champion for her grandson throughout both his medical journey and his rugby journey.  She has also been, for many years, a dedicated member and officer of the Seattle Festival of Trees Guild (formerly the Dr. Forest Flashman Guild) and has been a prolific holiday tree designer.

Alex and his family would like to thank, in particular, Dr. Joseph Gruss, an Endowed Chair in Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery at Seattle Children’s, and Dr. Hitesh Kapadia, the Division Chief of Craniofacial Orthodontics.
